We highly recommend Joe Hanauer and his firm, Landscape Architecture, for hardscape landscape projects. We had met with a half dozen other firms regarding replacement of a deteriorated, timber-lined hillside path to the lakefront. There were significant challenges due to slope, established trees, and limited site access. We also wanted the new path to be integrated and consistent with the existing landscape.At our initial meeting with Joe, we were impressed by his enthusiasm, creativity, and attention to details. We worked with him for about six months to refine the design, address permitting issues and select materials. Joe was always responsive to requests, offered constructive recommendations and enhanced the project design. Beyond replacing the path, we added a patio and seating area.The project took four weeks to complete in the fall of 2023. Joe’s crew was exemplary – they were talented craftsmen – expert hardscape installers who worked hard all day and were mindful of neighbors’ concerns – which were very few. The project was completed on time and on budget.We are pleased to have worked with Joe and his Landscape Architecture team and with the completed project.

Landscape Architecture created a design that brought safety, balance, and elegance to the front of our house. This included stone terracing and retaining walls, new grading, plantings and grass seed, new concrete steps and driveway—a considerable project. It now looks like it always should have—the highest compliment we can think of. It was a total pleasure to work with owner Joe Hanauer at every stage of the project. Meetings were productive. Joe listened to our requests and matched our aesthetic, responded quickly to all questions and any concerns, had great design ideas and creative solutions. The Landscape Architecture crew that carried out the work was top-notch. They worked hard and their range and level of skill was impressive. (Neighbors commented on this almost every day while the crew was at work!) I highly recommend Landscape Architecture. We are so glad they were referred to us.

Joe and his crew are exceptional. They answered all questions and were very open to our own design ideas. They were quick to rectify any issues with the build while and when they were done. They replace broken pavers, secured a loose step, and they are even replacing a failed landscaping light after five years! I can't recommend them enough!

I was trapped in my house 2 days during the 1st big storm of 2024. I saw their truck in my neighborhood so I asked to see if they could help me out. Zac had me call Joe, the crew arrived to clear me out less than 10 minute later! They were truly my Knight (s) in Shining Armor. In the aftermath of a snow storm like that, they went above and beyond to help me out. Rare in today's world, they are the best snow removal companies I have ever encountered. I am an avid gardener and had a very clear vision for what I wanted for hardscape around a new screen porch that had not been built when we first met with Joe. He was very patient and allowed the ideas to develop and grow. Joe also designed a plan to solve water issues in our back yard. Given the constraints of space and existing fixed grades, we feel the solutions Joe presented are elegant and actually solve our problems.Joe’s crew came and installed drains and hardscape, and regraded this summer. It looks fabulous and we couldn’t be more happy with the results. The crew was pleasant to work with and willing to hear my input and helped create my vision. We have had a lot of landscape work done over the years. Joe and his crew are the only people I’d have back.
