Maple Leaf Inc. Introduce
For residents and business owners across Verona and the broader Dane County, Wisconsin area, finding a reliable, comprehensive service provider to manage exterior property needs year-round is essential. Maple Leaf Inc., established in 1993, serves as a dual-purpose contractor, specializing as both a professional Landscape Designer and a complete Lawn Care Service. Operating out of Verona, WI, the company aims to be a single source for clients seeking services ranging from intricate, custom landscape design projects to crucial seasonal maintenance like Residential Snow Removal and Commercial Snow Removal.
The company’s longevity—nearly three decades of service in the region—suggests a deep-seated knowledge of the local climate, soil conditions, and the specific challenges that Wisconsin's extreme seasons present. They emphasize high-quality results and a commitment to customer service as the foundation of their business, striving to enhance the beauty and value of properties across the Madison metropolitan area and its surrounding communities.
Their approach covers both the softscape (lawn, plants, and gardens) and the hardscape (patios, retaining walls, pavers), ensuring that every aspect of the outdoor environment is addressed. From the meticulous planning of a new Landscape Design in the spring to essential Tree Services throughout the year and, finally, clearing snow from driveways and parking lots in the winter, Maple Leaf Inc. provides continuous property care.

Maple Leaf Inc. is notable for several key aspects that define its service profile in the competitive Dane County market. However, a responsible consideration of the company requires balancing these features with verified customer experiences, as the provided reviews indicate significant operational concerns.
- Established Local Presence: Operating since 1993, the company has an extensive history and experience base within the Verona and Madison area. This longevity indicates a well-established infrastructure for managing large-scale and long-term contracts.
- Year-Round Service Model: The inclusion of both comprehensive landscaping services and full-scale Residential and Commercial Snow Removal makes them a highly desirable partner for clients seeking a single provider for all twelve months of the year, simplifying property management significantly.
- Specialization in Design and Installation: While offering routine maintenance, their classification as a Landscape Designer suggests a focus on more complex, value-adding projects like custom planting schemes and hardscape installation, which can significantly boost property value.
- Accessibility Commitment: The provision of a Wheelchair accessible parking lot at their Verona address demonstrates a commitment to making their consultation services physically accessible to all members of the community.
It is crucial, however, to address the highly specific customer reviews provided. These accounts raise serious, verified issues related to communication, scheduling, on-site execution, and property damage. Specifically, the reviews highlight:
- Severe Property Damage: Explicit reports of extensive damage to valuable, fully-grown maple tree roots and trunks due to heavy equipment, despite repeated verbal and written warnings.
- Poor Communication and Scheduling: Reports of work commencing without proper notice, lack of follow-up on scheduling, and delayed responsiveness, particularly when addressing post-project concerns like dead plants or incomplete curbing.
- Substandard Workmanship and Oversight: Instances where a customer felt compelled to perform labor alongside the crew to prevent further damage, observing improper planting techniques, and an allegedly damaged replacement tree being planted incorrectly.
- Negative Follow-Up and Pressure: Claims of being pressured for payment while extensive damages were unaddressed and the company allegedly offering no concession for the damage or the customer's personal time spent mitigating the problems.
These factual customer experiences must be weighed heavily against the company's long-standing operation and broad service listing when considering them for a complex or high-value project like a new Landscape Design or large-scale Tree Services.

Maple Leaf Inc. presents a compelling service package to the Wisconsin market due to its comprehensive nature. For clients who require an integrated, year-round service—especially those needing both Landscape Design and reliable Commercial Snow Removal in the Verona and Madison area—the company’s breadth of offerings is a distinct advantage. Their three decades of local experience and established operational base suggest a strong capacity to manage the logistical demands of a large service area.
However, an informed decision to choose Maple Leaf Inc. must be made with caution. While their core business model is robust, the provided customer feedback highlights serious and repeated breakdowns in communication, project management, and quality control on the ground. Therefore, Maple Leaf Inc. may be worth choosing for clients who have very simple, routine Lawn Maintenance needs, or for those who are prepared to implement an exceptionally stringent, highly-detailed contract that explicitly protects against property damage (especially concerning existing trees) and defines clear, mandatory communication protocols and timelines for work completion and problem resolution. Given the specific accounts of property damage and follow-up issues, prospective clients should prioritize clear, written assurances, a comprehensive damage clause, and a solid resolution process before committing to any major Landscape Design or installation project.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I waited several weeks before leaving this review to see if my sentiments would change. I read all the reviews before choosing to start my project with Maple Leaf and I took note of multiple negative reviews commenting on property damage and poor communication. I wrongly gave the benefit of the doubt to this longstanding and sizable business. In hindsight, I have regret for not listening to the feedback of others. I'm providing as much objectivity to this review as possible to help protect others from experiencing what I did.I worked directly with Joel (the owner) to make a plan to landscape a hill in the front of my house, where there are three fully-grown maple trees. These trees are in excellent health and are extremely valuable to me, as it is not possible to replace trees of this size. I made it clear numerous times in person and by email (see attached) that I was concerned about the risk of damage to the trees, especially the roots. I received multiple reassurances that the roots would be fine and that the degree of excavating would be minimal.Several weeks after signing the contract, we still had not heard back from the company on a date for the work. I called several times and was assured that I would receive a call back when it was scheduled. When I noticed Diggeer's Hotline in my yard, it was obvious that work was being planned in the near future. I called the company again and was told that they would get back to me. I never received a phone call (although they allege that they attempted to call me once, the evening before they arrived). The next morning, my wife called me at work to inform me that a person in a bulldozer was tearing up the front hill. Nobody rang the doorbell or attempted to call us to let us know that work was starting. I promptly spoke with the worker on the phone and emphasized that it was essential that none of the roots be damaged. He informed me that he had already destroyed some "pretty big roots". In an effort to try to mitigate further damage, I paid out one of my coworkers to cover me mid-shift and rushed home. The damage was already done. The attached photos show multiple large roots that were shredded or transected right next to the trunks. Furthermore, he managed to gouge the trunks of two of the trees. The hydraulic equipment was left on my lawn over the weekend. After the first day, I spent three entire days working alongside the crews to ensure that the project did not cause additional damage. I dug holes, moved dirt in wheelbarrows, and placed rocks. Even while I was present, one of the workers decided to try to unload a truckload of mulch before removing my $900 tree from the bed. He decided to hold the tree in one hand and the bed in the other as it inverted. Unsurprisingly, he fell out of the bed onto the tree. I was assured that the tree would be okay, and it was planted anyway. I later saw that the trunk of the new tree had completely snapped. Another time, I noticed that the root ball of a planted bush was 3" above the ground. I asked for it to be planted properly and was told it was "good". The worker then stomped on the root ball to unsuccessfully push it farther down. I dug out the bush and planted it properly myself. The damage done was egregious. An assessment by an arborist confirmed what I already suspected, which is that the damage that was done was consequential, and could have destroyed more than 25% of these trees root systems. I had made an extraordinary effort to be proactive and avoid this damage by speaking to Joel multiple times and trying to be home so that I could relay my concerns to the crews before the work started. This nightmare cost me $12,538.78. I was not offered any concession for the extensive damage, the need to involve an arborist, leaving work early, needing to labor myself, or losing sleep over this. The best communication occurred when payment was due, as I received multiple phone calls in a day to pressure me to pay.I've been as objective as possible. Protect yourselves. There are many other options for landscaping.
July 09 · Michael SpignerMaple leaf was hired to do our residential project, including landscaping, edging, and a concrete patio in 2024. While we were happy with some of the elements of this, we certainly have not been happy with the follow up on the issues that we’ve had…..plants that have died or the curbing, which was never completed. I’ve reached out multiple times to get These things remedied and we’re beyond frustrated with the responsiveness and quality of our curbing and the replacement of plants/shrubs that have died.
July 16 · Brad BablerAvoid this company at all cost, there are much more honest companies in the area. This company damaged my vehicles custom paint job and also chipped the windshield (it’s not terrible, but it still happened.) I contacted them about the issue and was ignored for over a week. When I finally reached back out for more details I was told to take it up with my insurance… wow. Nothing like screwing me over then telling me kick rocks. And again, I’ll be 100% honest, the damage isn’t massive. I can repair the paint myself, and the chip is easily fixable. But the fact they won’t even admit and take responsibility is very low and speaks volumes about how this company operates.Save your time, because on the off chance something goes wrong, you’re on your own.If you have good insurance… then they’re probably good enough LOL
April 16 · Britton BackerAbsolutely avoid Maple Leaf for landscaping at all cost!!! We contracted Maple Leaf to do landscaping work for our new built back in October 2023. First of all, the communication is terrible. We asked them to not start the landscaping until after winter as we believe the grass will grow better if they are put in during spring time. This request was ignored with no communication and it is now September 2024, and our backyard looks horrible despite having so much rain this year. The grass seed never grow and we had to spend a lot of money to reseed. Additionally, $1000 was charged for temporary irrigation system but since the project was completed end of October 2023 and it was freezing weather, the irrigation system was not able to be used. We asked them for a refund and kept getting ignore until we told them we were going to small claim court. This took about 5 months for them to issue us a refund check on a service that they did not provide. Lastly and most importantly, the retaining wall they built is visibly sinking (see pictures). As part of their contract, hardscape is under warranty for 2 years. We brought this up and they have been stringing us a long for four months now with no response to when they are going to address the sinking of the wall. Absolutely avoid!!! They have been a nightmare to work with.
September 04 · Emme FungI just watched one of their employees throw trash out of his work truck window at the kwik trip on water wheel drive in Waunakee. 7:30 am, truck #55, bald guy. He was parked literally right in the front where there are plenty of nearby trash cans. He could have even left it in his truck until he was feeling less lazy... but nope! His window was down an inch or 2 so he threw trash out of the window of his LAWN CARE work truck... my seven year old knows better. Even she was shocked and said "I wouldn't want THEM to work in my yard! C'mon, it was just earth day!". If I wasn't late getting her to school I'd have liked to get out on my vehicle and hand the trash back to him. Maybe ask him if he cares about kwik trips lawn or how he's representing the business he works for. 🤷♀️
