TruGreen Lawn Care Introduce
For many property owners across the Cedar Rapids and Eastern Iowa region, achieving and maintaining a lush, healthy lawn is a constant challenge, thanks to the area’s specific climate and common regional pests. TruGreen Lawn Care, a nationally recognized provider with a strong local presence, is dedicated to offering specialized, science-based solutions to these exact issues. They operate as a specialized service provider focused on the health of your turf, trees, and shrubs, rather than general contracting or construction.
The core philosophy of TruGreen is rooted in providing customized care. A one-size-fits-all approach rarely works for lawns in Iowa, which is why their service begins with a professional assessment. This initial step allows their specialists to create a tailored program that addresses the unique soil conditions, grass types, and existing problems—like persistent weeds or lawn-damaging insects—specific to your property.
While they do not handle construction or general contracting tasks, they are experts in a wide spectrum of specialized outdoor care, helping residential and commercial clients enhance their curb appeal and outdoor living space quality through advanced turf and plant health management.
TruGreen Lawn Care maintains a physical branch located conveniently within Cedar Rapids, ensuring local knowledge and rapid response times for clients throughout the surrounding Iowa communities. Their local presence facilitates scheduled services and enables specialists to be familiar with localized lawn diseases, weed varieties, and pest pressures unique to the Cedar Rapids area.

TruGreen Lawn Care offers a comprehensive suite of services, primarily focused on the health, density, and pest-free maintenance of turfgrass and ornamental plants. Their plans are structured to deliver year-round care, moving far beyond basic mowing to provide scientific solutions for a truly healthy lawn. Note that while they are listed as a "Landscaper" and "Tree service," their primary focus is on plant health care and maintenance, rather than major landscaping installation or tree removal.
Core Lawn and Pest Management Services include:
- Weed Control: Targeted treatment of both pre-emergent and post-emergent weeds, including common Iowa nuisances like dandelions and creeping Charlie.
- Lawn Treatment & Fertilization: Multi-step programs featuring custom-blended fertilizers to provide necessary nutrients for healthy growth and vibrant color, applied throughout the season.
- Lawn Analysis: Professional assessment of soil conditions and turf health to diagnose issues like soil imbalance, compaction, and pest activity.
- Lawn Aeration and Overseeding: Services to reduce soil compaction, allowing air, water, and nutrients to reach the roots, often paired with grass seeding to promote a thicker turf.
- Grub Prevention & Control: Essential applications to protect the lawn from turf-damaging insects like grubs, which can devastate a lawn quickly.
- Mosquito Control & Defense Treatment: Comprehensive defense programs to significantly reduce mosquito populations, making outdoor activities safer and more enjoyable.
- Tick and Flea Control: Targeted treatments to minimize the presence of ticks and fleas in the lawn and perimeter, protecting families and pets.
- Disease Prevention & Treatment: Fungicide and other treatments for common turf problems in the Iowa climate, such as Dollar Spot and other lawn fungus issues.
- Soil Amendments & Ph Balancing: Applications like lime treatment to correct soil pH and optimize the environment for grass health.
Tree and Shrub Care Services include:
- Total Tree Care: Health care for trees and shrubs, including specialized feeding and protection from damaging insects and diseases that affect ornamental plants.
- Insect and Disease Control: Application of insecticides and fungicides to protect landscape plants and enhance their vitality.
TruGreen distinguishes itself in the competitive Iowa lawn care market through several notable features:
- Scientific, Tailored Programs: The company utilizes a science-driven approach, beginning with a lawn assessment to tailor treatments, ensuring the grass receives the specific care it needs for the local environment.
- Guaranteed Satisfaction: Services are typically backed by a guarantee, meaning they will reservice your lawn between scheduled visits if you are not fully satisfied with the results of a treatment.
- Extensive Pest Management: Beyond standard fertilization and weed control, they offer specialized pest treatments, including comprehensive mosquito defense and grub control, which are highly valued in the Iowa outdoor season.
- Professional Specialist Interaction: Customers frequently report positive experiences with the local specialists, noting their professionalism, willingness to answer questions, and accommodating nature regarding specific requests, such as treating slightly beyond property boundaries to limit weed creep.
- Option for Natural Care: For environmentally conscious customers, the company offers a TruNatural program which utilizes 100% natural, organic fertilizer, with optional conventional weed control, providing a choice for sustainable lawn maintenance.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Another update: back down to 2 stars. I got another sales call. The rep wanted to sell their aerate and roll services. If they paid attention to the lawn they already service, they'd know I have new sod that they just fertilized. They proceeded to ask me about my trees, shrubs and bugs. So tired of their weekly sales calls!I am updating my review from 2 to 5 stars after being contacted by TruGreen. They promised no more sales calls.I use their lawn service. I'm very pleased with that service, but they constantly call me trying to get me to use their other services that I do not want. They continue to call and are very pushy. I'm tempted to find another provider because of their nuisance sales calls.
September 26 · Amy KuhlersI have been using Trugreen for a few years now. I mainly use their fertilizing and weed control program. So far my experience with the specialists that come to treat the lawn has been very positive. Many times if I’m home when they show up to apply the product I will have a conversation with them about the service and the product. Several times they have asked if I have any questions or comments which is nice because one thing that I have requested is if they will please spray product a little beyond the boundary between my lawn and my neighbors, this way it will better limit their weeds from creeping into my lawn. And they have been very accommodating to my request.
September 05 · Reynier MartinezExtremely disappointed, see images.Over a year of service, my lawn has many bare spots and weeds on top of it all!
July 21 · Aaron Van NoyRude. Details:Understandable they don't do lawnmowing services any longer as of this year; HOWEVER, the first guy I called said he was in Chicago and some locations did them / some didn't and he'd transfer me to a local branch.... Then I waited without hold anything for forever and never got transferred. So, I hung up and called a different number for their same services. Got a woman who informed me, rudely that was wrong and she was from the corporate office and then hung up on me. Customer service wins or loses my business so I didn't even have a chance, now no desire, to discuss our other service needs. We will look elsewhere.
June 17 · Louisa BHad my first treatment today. I was SHOCKED the tech was here no joke 7 minutes!! I wasn’t “supervising” him but one minute he’s unwrapping the hose from his truck, and within minutes he’s rolling it back up. I contacted support as I thought maybe my plan was different then what I was told. Just seemed to me in that timeframe he only did the front yard. The lady I was corresponding with assured me my plan was for the front, back, and side yards, totaling over 7,000 ft. The lady explained to me that the techs do a thousand feet per minute. This equals the seven minutes in question. I’m not quite a believer yet as the fertilizer treatment hasn’t been given ample time to flourish. I trust Trugreen will help me achieve a great lawn. I just gotta get over that short time span deal lol.
