- Disease Management for Evergreen Trees
Needlecast (Rhizosphaera) fungus infects interior needles of trees causing premature needle drop during the growing season. Proactive treatment is necessary for Needlecast in the successful management of the disease since there is no recourse once the disease has set in for the season. Diplodia fungus causes stunting of needles at the branch tips, branch dieback, and overall decline of Austrian and Scots Pine trees. New shoots (candles) are treated at appropriate intervals while they are expanding in late spring. Three (3) fungicide applications in the spring months are recommended for preventative care.
- Disease Prevention
- Dormant Oil
Horticultural oils are very effective for controlling scale insects, mites and over-wintering egg masses before the insects can damage your plants in spring. Damaging insects are controlled through membrane disruption and/or suffocation. This highly refined oil is applied during the dormant season which helps to avoid non-targeted insects, which makes this spray an environmentally friendly alternative. Certain tree species are sensitive to the oil and are not treated.
- Dormant Prune
Dormant pruning is a horticultural practice performed during the winter months while the plant material is in a state of dormancy. It is utilized to increase the longevity and overall health of the plant material. This beneficial practice is employed to remove weak/ dead or damaged stems and branches, improve overall plant structure and growth habit, and reduce overall size to encourage new, healthy growth from within the plant. Since this task is performed during the winter months, there is reduced disruption to the landscape.

Systemic insecticide is injected directly into the soil to control insects such as scale, leaf miners, gall makers, borers, and a wide variety of other damaging pests. The material is transported throughout the tree via its own vascular system. For taller trees, it may take weeks for the product to reach all parts of the tree, so applications need to be proactive, before insects arrive. This method is proven to be more effective than traditional foliar sprays, and the benefit of the injection is that the products are solely in the ground and will not impact children or pets. The ground needs to be well watered for 2-3 weeks after application.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I am very pleased with my completed landscape job and so glad that I met Rick Ramoser (Landscape Design – Sales) at the Chicago Home Show!!! Rick understood my request and worked with me. With his accommodation of my one small modification to the shape of the bed, my project turned out amazing and I wouldn't have been as happy if this modification weren’t made. The addition of the flagstone steppers throughout my gardens is awesome and I am really enjoying it!I was also very impressed with the crew who arrived on the day: Jose (project manager), Claro (lead foreman), and Gerardo (laborer). This team was fast, professional, and friendly and helped to make this such a great experience for me! Definitely a satisfied customer. After the job was completed, I contacted Rick to let him know how happy I was with the results and also had a few additional questions. Even though a final walkthrough was scheduled in a few days, Rick patiently answered my questions and gave me guidance to ensure I was able to take care of the new plantings.Dan came out to meet with me and patiently explained all aspects of plant care to be sure I had all the information I needed to care for my new gardens. In addition, Poul’s offers a 1-year guarantee on the plants, 2 years for the tree, and 5 years for the hardscape. I’m adding this review, understanding how much business comes from reviews from a satisfied client! If you are looking to hire a landscape company, look no further! I highly recommend Poul's.
July 02 · Barbara RonnerPouls Landscaping did an amazing job with our patio project! John and Dan came up with a plan and we absolutely love the results! The addition of a flagstone fire pit area, stepping stones and ledger steps to the side yard are just what we needed to finish the space! It looks amazing we couldn’t be happier! They are true professionals and took care of every detail start to finish!Shout out to Kelly as well! She kept me updated on any changes due to weather! Highly recommend this fantastic team!
May 08 · Cathy DeFriesI had a very positive experience working with Poul's on my back and side yard landscaping and hardscaping. Andrew, my rep, was a great communicator, paying attention to details. Price was reasonable and I just love my new butterfly garden and patio area. Instructions on how to care for the plants was comprehensive. Poul's is coming back to prep my new trees (4 large evergreen, 2 maple) for winter. I was so happy with the results that I went ahead with a maintenance program as well, plus my next door neighbor also used them and is also happy with the results!
August 26 · Karen BabosAndrew and the Poul’s team did an outstanding job with our patio. This was phase two of our home improvement plans- they did an excellent job with our front entrance bricks and new platings last year. The patio looks great and it is the result of an outstanding collaboration between my wife, myself and Andrew. During our initial conversation, Andrew listened to our requirements and then provided an outstanding plan that represented our vision. Although we did pare the plan down to align with our budget, he was patient and never pushy. In the end, he and the Poul’s team quickly delivered a patio that we will used all summer long and we look forward to using during the fall. It looks so impressive and includes lots of plantings that will yield awesome colors through Spring, Summer and Fall. We are so proud of our patio and look forward to sharing it with our family, friend and neighbors and making lots of memories. Thank you, Poul’s!
June 04 · Jose LozadaBefore working with Pouls Landscaping, our house had very little curb appeal—but they completely transformed it. We couldn’t be happier with the results. Andrew came up with a fantastic design that brought our front yard to life, and he was an absolute pleasure to work with—friendly, responsive, and full of great ideas. The crew did an outstanding job executing the vision with precision and care. They were professional, courteous, and made sure to clean up at the end of each day. The construction team also built a beautiful new front stoop that ties everything together perfectly. If you’re looking for a top-tier landscaping company that delivers incredible results, Pouls is the one to call. Highly recommend!
