While the office location is accessible, customers should note that for project-related communication, there may be challenges. Reviews indicate that while the initial quoting and on-site work are handled efficiently, follow-up communication—particularly after a job's completion—can be difficult. Prospective clients are advised to clarify communication expectations upfront, especially for warranty or post-installation adjustments.
Murray Landscaping focuses heavily on structural and design-oriented services that require a general contractor's skillset, combined with the detailed knowledge of a landscaper. Their offerings are designed to manage both the look and the essential functionality of a property's exterior, especially concerning challenging Michigan terrains.
Core services provided by this Landscaper and General Contractor include:
- Landscape Design & Consultation: Professional Landscape Design, including Garden Design, Outdoor Water Feature Design, and comprehensive project planning. This service leverages their Business Management Consultant categorization to structure major projects.

Murray Landscaping offers a number of compelling features, particularly for those looking to hire a general contractor for major, structural landscaping work in the Kalamazoo area.

- Efficiency and Speed of Work: Customers confirm that the team adheres to scheduled timelines ("came out to work... when they said they would") and completes the jobs "quickly."

Murray Landscaping is particularly worth choosing for Michigan property owners who have a clearly defined, large-scale structural landscaping project, such as building extensive retaining walls, installing a new driveway, or needing immediate sod coverage. The main value proposition of this general contractor lies in their ability to offer competitive pricing and execute the primary construction work with remarkable speed and adherence to the initial schedule, helping clients start and finish major renovations quickly. Their multi-disciplinary expertise as a Business Management Consultant, Landscape Designer, and Hardscaping specialist ensures they can manage the technical complexity of integrating masonry and grading into a cohesive outdoor plan.
However, potential clients must weigh the benefit of fast, cost-effective initial construction against the documented challenges in long-term support. For major structural work like retaining walls and drainage systems, where long-term performance and warranties are crucial, clients should take "more care in who I hire for big projects going forward," as one reviewer suggested. In summary, Murray Landscaping is an excellent choice for a client who is confident in the project scope and prioritizes fast, competitive installation of features like new plantings and paving, but should proceed with caution and clear terms when structural integrity elements like drainage and retaining walls are the primary concern.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I would not recommend this landscaper.I had some flooding issues a couple years ago and they built a retaining wall, graded my lawn, and attempted to address draining issues with my lawn.First the good:- He was cheaper than the 3 other landscapers that quoted us.- They came out to work on the wall/grading when they said they would.- They completed the job quickly. Now the terrible:- My retaining wall is leaning and I am pretty sure it is getting worse over time. I am not a landscaper, but I am not sure why a retaining wall should be leaning.- I was told that they would fix my flooding/drainage issues. While my house is not flooding anymore (which I am very grateful for), the drainage issue is still a big problem. After a hard rain, most of my side yard is underwater.- Once the project is done, it is next to impossible to get them to come out and address issues with projects that they worked on. When I try to call, I have to leave a message with his secretary to have him call me back. He doesn’t call back.I should have written this review much sooner, but I generally like to give people a chance to make things right before I write negative things about their business. I’ll definitely take more care in who I hire for big projects going forward.

December 13 · Julia GungerI would strongly recommend looking for another landscaper. After a septic disaster, we needed to reseed our yard and replant a bed that my father planted 40 years ago. Our budget was $3000. After hearing our wishes, they came back with a $5000 quote. For some reason, we agreed because their reviews seemed good. It took three months for them to start the work.Although they planted all the plants we agreed to, I had to call them out three times to move plants. Once because they planted a tree that was suppose to grow over 10 feet because it was right under the overhang in the front of the house that is less than 4 feet high. The second time was because some of the plants were placed right next to each other, fingers apart, when they needed to be feet apart. The third time was for bushes that were supposed to frame the garage. They were not centered, and one bush was planted over a foot in front of the other one.All of these plants were planted on the same day. I am not a green thumb and am not used to plants. Instead of reviewing the their work after the first call, I had to call them back several times when it finally dawned on me that there was an error or it was pointed out to me with someone with better eyes. The yard workers were completely unprofessional and not knowledgeable. After I had to point out their errors, they yelled at my sister. They also ripped up the yard much farther than what was needed, broke the invisible fence, and left huge spaces where they didn’t bother to put grass seed. It looked very haphazard. The thing that gets my goat even more is that we paid $130 for them to trim some lilacs. At first, I thought they mistook the wrong plant because they clipped a different bush we hadn’t discussed. After I discussed it with them in person, I quickly got the impression that the worker didn’t understand. I actually did most of the work I was planning on them doing. I painted some branches I hoped they could clip with bright orange spray paint and included pictures and written instructions of what I wanted...and they still didn’t do it.Even though they caused a couple of hundred dollars in damage, they actually charged us more than the original quote. Over $200 for removing two small bushes and putting a little of the mulch around a bird feeder. We also had to buy a $40 bag of grass seed to fill in every place they missed. They never corrected it even when I addressed it.I agree with another reviewer that they will do everything they can to do the work when you are not there. They purposely don’t really tell you when they are going to come.If I can prevent someone else from heartache, this will be worth it. Just go elsewhere.
