DC Stoneworks LLC Introduce
When seeking a general contractor for property improvements in the Wisconsin area, especially for specialized outdoor projects like landscaping, paving, or stonework, local expertise and a dependable track record are essential. DC Stoneworks LLC, based in Oshkosh, positions itself as a service provider capable of tackling several aspects of exterior design and construction. The company’s stated focus encompasses multiple roles, including that of a Landscaper, Landscape Architect, Landscape Lighting Designer, and Paving Contractor, suggesting a broad scope of outdoor contracting services available to residents and businesses in the Fox Valley region.
The owner, Dave Curtis, describes himself as a dedicated operator with over 40 years of experience in the landscaping business and a commitment to scaling his work back to concentrate on smaller projects since founding the business in 2003. This experience is often the first thing a prospective client in Wisconsin looks for—a seasoned professional who understands the unique challenges of the local climate, such as harsh winters and specific soil compositions. Curtis notes that he previously handled projects ranging from $500 to $1 million, demonstrating a history of managing both large and small-scale operations. For customers seeking an extension of their home into a functional outdoor space, the initial promise of this depth of experience is certainly appealing.
However, the decision to hire any general contractor should always be informed by a full picture of their operation, including accessibility, the full range of services, and, most critically, the experiences of past clients. This article aims to provide a factual, comprehensive overview of DC Stoneworks LLC to assist local Wisconsin users in making their own informed choice.
DC Stoneworks LLC is situated in Oshkosh, placing them centrally within the Fox Valley area of Eastern Wisconsin. This location is advantageous for servicing a wide local region including Fond du Lac, Appleton, Green Bay, and other surrounding communities. A local contractor with a dedicated physical address often ensures better accountability and prompt service delivery for area clients.
The primary contact location for the company is:
1475 Co Rd I, Oshkosh, WI 54902, USA
Operating from a known local address provides assurance to Wisconsin clients that the company is a fixture in the community and readily accessible for meetings, project site visits, and general communication. This geographical convenience is a key factor for homeowners and businesses when planning outdoor construction or renovation projects that require consistent, reliable service.
As a multi-faceted general contractor for exterior spaces, DC Stoneworks LLC presents a variety of specialty services. The nature of these services suggests that the company is equipped to manage comprehensive outdoor projects from the initial design phase through final construction. The stated service types include:
- Landscaper: Installation, care, and maintenance of various elements like plants, trees, sod, and general softscapes.
- Landscape Architect/Designer: Offering specialized design services to help clients envision and plan their outdoor space, ensuring harmony between aesthetics and function.
- Landscape Lighting Designer: Expertise in planning and installing exterior lighting systems to enhance the safety, usability, and beauty of a property after dark.
- Paving Contractor: Specializing in hardscape installation, which covers driveways, walkways, patios, and other surfaces using materials like pavers, stone, or concrete. This skill is critical for Wisconsin’s climate, where proper installation is essential to prevent shifting and cracking due to freeze-thaw cycles.
- Stonework: Given the company name, a focus on custom stonework—such as retaining walls, stone patios, and garden features—is likely a core competency.
These services cover the majority of a typical residential or commercial exterior project, allowing clients to potentially work with a single contractor for a design-build solution.
A critical feature of any contractor is their reputation, which can be derived from their stated background and actual customer feedback.
Stated highlights from the contractor’s perspective:
- Extensive Experience: The owner, Dave Curtis, highlights over 40 years of experience in the landscaping field, which theoretically brings a high level of technical skill and problem-solving capability.
- Broad Skill Set: The ability to act as a landscaper, architect, lighting designer, and paving contractor means the business can handle diverse project needs under one roof.
- Personalized Service: The current business model focuses on smaller projects, with the owner handling multiple roles (receptionist, designer, foreman), suggesting a direct, personal level of communication and project oversight.
- Commitment to Honesty: The owner professes a strong commitment to telling clients the "truth" regarding project price, length, and availability.
However, potential customers in Wisconsin must also consider concerning highlights derived from public customer feedback:
- Allegations of Unprofessionalism: One customer reported a last-minute cancellation via phone message due to the company allegedly being sold, after an initial "courting" process, labeling the action as "the pinnacle of unprofessionalism."
- Concerns over Work Quality and Integrity: Another customer detailed a significant issue involving a project where the promised black dirt and leveling work were allegedly not performed, with the existing poor-quality rock simply being covered and reintroduced. This suggests a potential lack of integrity or poor execution on fundamental promised work.
For Wisconsin residents who wish to contact DC Stoneworks LLC to inquire about their services, or to verify the status of the business and its operational capacity, the following contact details are available:
- Primary Phone: (920) 230-4468
- Mobile Phone: +1 920-230-4468
- Address: 1475 Co Rd I, Oshkosh, WI 54902, USA
The owner, Dave Curtis, encourages direct phone contact, stating he typically responds faster to calls and promises a return call within 24 hours if he is unable to answer immediately.
For a Wisconsin user to choose DC Stoneworks LLC, the decision rests entirely on balancing the promise of decades of specialized experience against the highly critical feedback available online. The main factors that might make this contractor a worthwhile consideration are their deep-seated local experience and specialized skill in stonework, paving, and landscape design. Few contractors in the Oshkosh area may boast over 40 years in the field, and this level of veteran expertise in hardscapes is a significant asset, particularly when dealing with complex grading or custom stone features. A contractor with this experience would, in theory, be an excellent choice for design-heavy or technical projects.
However, it is incumbent upon any prospective Wisconsin client to proceed with extreme caution and thorough due diligence. Given the severe nature of the public reviews, which question the company's integrity and professionalism (e.g., last-minute cancellation after a commitment, and alleged failure to deliver promised materials and work), a client must take steps to mitigate potential risk.
If choosing to engage with DC Stoneworks LLC, it is strongly recommended that Wisconsin clients:
- Insist on a comprehensive, legally binding contract clearly detailing all work, materials (e.g., black dirt quantity/quality), timelines, and payment schedules.
- Require physical, verifiable references from recently completed, successful projects in the Oshkosh area.
- Discuss the critical negative reviews directly with the owner to understand his perspective and any resolutions offered.
- Establish a clear process for payment contingent upon verifiable completion of work milestones (e.g., no payment for black dirt until the client verifies it is on site and properly graded).
Ultimately, while the potential for highly experienced, personalized service is there, local Wisconsin users should use the critical information provided as a basis for caution and meticulous pre-contract scrutiny.

DC Stoneworks LLC Reviews
Dave Curtis courted us mightily promising his 20+ years of experience and expertise for our landscaping project. He gave us an estimate, connected us with a curbing company, and accepted our job. Just before the work was to begin, we received a phone message (he was not even courageous enough to speak with us!) saying he would not complete our project as he sold his company. (?) HIS ACTIONS ARE THE PINNACLE OF UNPROFESSIONALISM. I urge you to think twice before dealing with DC Stoneworks in any way.
June 11 · Nancy BreedloveI went to DC Stoneworks to have them add black dirt level and grade my landscaping. I was told that black dirt was put in and that my landscaping was leveled and would last me for quite some time. I’ve since found out as I’ve moved some of the rock that they put in that they didn’t bring any black dirt in. They didn’t level anything. They literally just pulled some of the rock out of my Landscaping put their weed Burri over it and reintroduced very poor rock that is currently breaking down 10 years later. do not utilize these people
